Reflecting on Love: How Doing My Nails Became an Act of Self-Love and Connection

As February rolls in, the air fills with talk of love—romantic love, friendship love, family love. But this year, I’ve been thinking about love in a different way. Not just as something we give to others, but as something we cultivate within ourselves. And oddly enough, it’s while sitting at my little nail station, brush in hand, that I’ve come to realize how much doing my nails has become an act of love.

The Ritual of Reflection

There’s something almost meditative about painting your nails. The focus it requires, the steady hand, the patience as each layer dries—it forces you to slow down. In a world that’s always rushing, this small ritual has become my moment to pause and reflect. As I sit there, I think about the people I love, the connections I cherish, and the ways I show up for them. But more importantly, I think about how I show up for myself.

Doing my nails isn’t just about beauty; it’s about taking the time to care for myself. It’s a reminder that I am worth the effort. Each stroke of polish is like a little love letter to myself, a way of saying, “You matter.” And isn’t that what love is all about? Seeing value in someone—whether it’s yourself or another person—and taking the time to honor it.
